People search for it in education, wealth, careers, and even in religious involvements. To try to find our true selves we often set our lives on a course of strife and even sensationalism. When Jesus emerged from his own baptismal waters (Mark 1:9-11), He heard his Father say, You are my Son, whom I love- with you I am well pleased. The Father did not define Jesus by any of the roles, such as teacher or evangelist, that He would have while on earth. God emphasized Jesus relationship with the Father. That day, in Jesus life was laid a foundation that would carry Him to the end of His life an would help Him finish well. Despite the rejection, mocking, persecution, and the experience of the cross itself, knowing Who He was gave Him the strength and determination to finish the race. Author Vince Mercardante for more than 40 years struggled with insecurity, shame, guilt, and searching for identity. One day, while on a flight to New Zealand in 2005, he cried out, God, I dont know who I am. At that moment he heard the voice of God say, You are my son! The results of Vinces searching for his true identity are revealed in this book, in which he offers godly helps to others. The author contends that the importance of Jesus knowing His true identity cannot be understated. For example, Jesus first two temptations from Satan began with the words, If you are the Son of God . . .. Had Jesus not have known for certain just who He was, the story might have had a different ending! Vince discloses that the greatest identity anyone could have in this life is that of being a son or daughter of the Living God. Those other titles we frequently carry do not reflect who we are but only what we do. Being Daddys Little Boy or Girl (DLB/DLG) is a privilege bestowed on us by our older Brother, Jesus. When we understand just who we are, the gates of hell will never prevail against us!
